Refer to the Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Exchange TIM Check List'Exchange TIM Checklist for the additional procedures including preparation, exchange, verify, release, document, and return. The exchange should be completed with the system power ON and Cassini software running from the latest revision Short Cut available.

Compared to TIMs mounted to the Testhead, the RI7725 20 GHz Microwave Source requires additional procedures, tools and packaging when being exchanged. Due to its legacy in previous Roos Instrument's ATE Systems, the hardware is also referred to as Aux Source, Anritsu Source, 20 GHz Source and Microwave Signal Generator and will be referred to as "source" in the procedure below.

The RI7725 is located in the Auxiliary Rack (AUX Rack) and uses an auxiliary rack TIM, also referred to as a Remote TIM, to route resources to the Testhead. Remote TIMs are typically placed closest to the AUX Rack (slots T1, T2, T15, T16).The instrument in this TIM appears as "Source1", "Source2", "Source3" or "RecLo" when used as the Local Oscillator (L.O.) for the system’s Receiver. The RI7725 sources are mounted in the AUX Rack with two sources per shelf, labeled from the lowest location upward as "RecLo", "Source1", "Source2", and "Source3." In a typical configuration, the RF port from each source is routed via semi-rigid interconnect cables on the fixture bottom plate or interface plate to the Source1/2 Combiner and/or Receiver TIMs. The T-Location and the C# port on the Remote TIM RF blocks are typically NOT reported in the Tester Configuration window or Device Connection Editor to allow flexible Remote TIM configurations.

WARNING: HEAVY (50-60 Lbs. / 22-26 kg). Use proper lifting techniques when moving the source.
When installing SMA cables, always turn the coupling nut, do NOT spin the center conductor. Do not twist the cable. Do not try to put a wrench on the gold tip cap.
IMPORTANT: SMA Cable is contoured to fit, DO NOT STRAIGHTEN

Tools Required:

To Exchange RI7725 20 GHz Microwave Source AUX Rack TIM

  1. Before continuing with this procedure, make sure all the previous steps in the Exchange TIM Checklist have been completed, including importing Cal data and unlatching the Fixture. If the Tester Configuration window is not already open, choose System > Tester from the Cassini main system window.
  2. Identify the source being replaced by following the steps in the "To Identify a Source Instrument" procedure below. Since there are up to two sources per tray, any source above the failed one should also be removed. In other words, if the RecLo instrument is being replaced, then the source above it (Source1) must be completely detached, unscrewed and removed. If more than one source is removed, always keep the labeled RIFL and RF cables in the same order from top to bottom. The system identifies the resources by the RIFL and RF cables going to the same sources.
  3. From the back of the rack, open the access panel and power down the source by switching the source power OFF and removing the AC cable.
  4. Remove the RIFL II (shielded CAT5) cable(s) and carefully remove the RF SMA cable(s) with a 5/16" SMA Torque Wrench.
IMPORTANT: For the SMA connector, always turn the coupling nut, do NOT spin the center conductor. Do not twist the cable. Do not try to put a wrench on the gold tip cap.
  5. Unscrew the front rack mounting screws with a #1 Phillips head screwdriver and carefully slide the failed source(s) out. After removing a source, DO NOT press System > Check buttons until after the new source is fully installed. The software will attempt to assign the instrument name to match the replacement source. If multiple sources were removed, be sure to reattach ALL sources before pressing performing a System > Check in step 6.
WARNING: The source is very heavy (60 Lbs. / 26 Kg), so please use proper lifting techniques when moving the source.
  6. Slide the replacement source(s) in the same location and tighten the front rack mounting screws.
  7. Attach the RIFL II and SMA cables. Use the SMA Torque Wrench to carefully tighten the SMA cable, do NOT over tighten SMA connector.
  8. Attach the AC cable and switch the source power ON. Start a 5 minute warm-up timer.
  9. From the Cassini main system window, choose System > Check.
  10. Verify the source identities are correct by following the "To Identify a Source Instrument" procedure below.
  11. If the source was identified correctly, save the tester definition by choosing Tester > Save from the Configuration window. This will permanently assign the instrument name and prepare the system for future source replacements. If the source was not identified correctly, follow the procedure to To Rename Source Instrument below.
  12. Confirm the source is warmed up and all the internal clocks are locked to the 10 MHz reference by following the procedure to Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Self Test RI7725 20 GHz Source AUX TIM'Self Test a RI7725 Source TIM.
  13. Continue with the Verify and Release step from the Database 'Product Docs', View 'All Documents', Document 'Exchange TIM Check List'Exchange TIM Checklist, including diagnostics and confirming the Cal Data is loaded and return the damaged Source following the RF Source Packing Instructions.
Note: If the RecLo instrument was exchanged, it can be considered a "stand alone" TIM and so a RF System calibration is not required. The RecLo is not sensitive to source power variation and is the only "stand alone" instrument attached to the RF System that can be replaced without a RF System calibration. If any other sources are changed, a complete RF System calibration is recommended.

To Identify a Source Instrument
  1. Highlight the instrument name from the Tester Configuration window (System > Tester).
  2. Choose Flash LED from the right mouse button menu.
  3. Identify the source in the AUX rack by finding the indicator light in the front of the source that is flashing Green-Red. The Cassini user interface is unresponsive for 10 seconds while the light flashes.
  4. Repeat for other source instruments or continue with the correctly identified source selected in the configuration list.

To Rename Source Instrument

Only follow these steps if the source(s) were not identified properly in the Configuration window.

  1. Select the intended instrument name of the replacement source (i.e. "RecLo") and choose Rename from the right mouse button menu.
  2. Enter any temporary name like "SourceA" on the prompt to make the instrument name available for the target source.
  3. Follow the "To Identify a Source Instrument" procedure above to confirm the incorrectly identified source instrument name. Choose Rename from the right mouse button menu of the selected instrument and enter the correct name (i.e. "RecLo").
IMPORTANT: The instrument names are Case Sensitive, no spaces or special symbols should be used.
  4. Now rename the temporary "SourceA" instrument to the correct name (i.e. "Source1") by selecting the instrument and choosing Rename from the right mouse button menu.
  5. Verify the correct names for both instruments by following the procedure "To Identify a Source Instrument."
  6. Save the tester definition by choosing Tester > Save from the Configuration window. This will permanently assign the instrument name and prepare the system for future source replacements.
